  • Initially built in 1902 as a cotton mill for the Royal Bag and Yarn Manufacturing Company

  • In 1938, purchased by the Works Projects Administration and converted to Charleston County Hall which was a multi-use building that held sporting events, concerts, political events and social functions.  The building was a diverse venue, where musical acts included James Brown, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, the Bryds, the Doors and Buffalo Springfield.

  • For generations of Pro Wrestling fans, County Hall on Friday nights is where you had an opportunity to see Ric "The Nature Boy" Flair, Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and more!

  • ​In 1967, Rev Martin Luther King Jr. visited Charleston and gave a speech at County Hall.

  • In operation until ~1985, County Hall was renovated into the King Street Palace music venue.  Oprah Winfrey held her famous talk show in 1989 at King Street Palace after Hurricane Hugo

  • Music acts including Vanilla Ice, Anthrax, 311, Fiona Apple, Skid Row and George Clinton & the P-Funk Allstars all played at the King Street Palace.

  • In 2000, the property was converted to a 3-story apartment building and current ownership has now fully renovated the majority of the property exterior, common areas and units.
