In 1938, purchased by the Works Projects Administration and converted to Charleston County Hall which was a multi-use building that held sporting events, concerts, political events and social functions. The building was a diverse venue, where musical acts included James Brown, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, the Bryds, the Doors and Buffalo Springfield.
